Las Vegas Medical Center

Welcome to Las Vegas Medical Center's Home Page. The Las Vegas Medical Center offers New Mexicans a quality psychiatric hospital and long-term care facility. Because of the high standard of care the Medical Center maintains, it enjoys a national reputation in psychiatric fields. The excellence maintained at the Las Vegas Medical Center is attributable to its outstanding leadership, an exceptional state executive, and legislature support.

The Las Vegas Medical Center is state owned, and operated by the New Mexico Department of Health. It is open to all New Mexico citizens regardless of ability to pay. Fees are on a sliding scale basis. The psychiatric hospital at the Medical Center serves the entire state and averages 200 patients a day. It provides adolescent, adult, elderly, and forensic psychiatric services.

The Las Vegas Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). In a recent survey of the Medical Center, JCAHO praised several programs - including the forensic services, long term care, and consumer employment - as models for the nation.

The Medical Center has many services that enrich the patient environment in addition to treatment and rehabilitation. Religious services are regularly offered. A patient advocate ensures any grievances are handled appropriately and promptly. An ombudsman speaks for elderly residents should they need such assistance. Other specialized services enhance the environment for all.
