LONG-TERM CARE
The Las Vegas Medical Center's long-term care unit provides itermediate nursing care for elderly and disabled New Mexico citizens. Although the average age of residents is 65, age is not an admission factor and several younger residents with disabling diseases or trauma reside here. Residents who are admitted have serious to severe physical limitations requiring moderate to constant nursing care. Medical and nursing services are on a 24-hour-a-day basis.
Long term care had distinct living areas for wheel chair bound and ambulatory residents. All units, however promote mobility and independence to the fullest extent possible. There is also a special needs unit for residents who display behavior which may pose a danger to self and others, cause residents to wander off, or results in residents neglecting themselves. The program targets behavior problems and positively reinforces improvement.
All staff on the long-term care units strive to create a home like atmosphere for residents. Active family support and participation is strongly encouraged in the care of loved ones.
Long-term care is a fully accredited and licensed facility with 168 beds. It is Medicaid certified.
