Ping
Ping sends a packet to the destination and waits for a response. It then returns the quantity of ICMP packets sent, the timeout duration, the transfer success rate, and the minimum, average, and maximum roundtrip times for the ICMP packets sent.
The most frequent responses to a ping are a series of “!” if the ping is successful or a series of “.” if the request times out.
If you simply type ping and then press the Return key at the enable mode prompt you will be able to use extended mode ping options.
These options include the protocol (for example ipx), source and destination address, the specific data inside the packet, the size of the packet, and the level of service and logging that is requested.
