Ping and Trace

• Ping and trace are available from the User EXEC and Privileged EXEC mode.

• Ping and trace verify connectivity at the Internetwork layer of the TCP/IP model, which corresponds to the Network layer of the OSI reference model.

• Both ping and trace use ICMP messages to verify that the destination host is reachable, and if not, possible reasons for the problem.
