Intranets

Intranet is the latest buzzword in information technology. An intranet incorporates the concepts of the internet but on a limited scale. The biggest advantage to builiding an intranet is the ability to transfer data across different hardware platforms. Five years ago, the big buzz-phrase was "open systems"; today that same concept is embodied in the intranet. Both the Internet and intranets use the TCP/IP protocol to move data between computers across a network and both are platform independent.
