On August 24, 1999, the US Army and Sun Microsystems announced that they are implementing Jini software in the Army’s Battlefield Command Systems’ Tactical Operation Centers around the world.
- The Army was in need of “an infrastructure easily adaptable to battlefield scenarios and can also withstand partial failure or destruction of critical battlefield applications”.
- The spontaneous nature of Jini’s instant connectivity (and dis-connectivity) is ideal for this and similar applications.
