Categories of UTP Wiring
- Wiring Quality, Category 3 being lowest
For 10Base-T
- Categories 3, 4, or 5 are OK
- However, most installed wiring is Cat 5
For 100Base-TX, Cat 5 is required
For Gigabit Ethernet, Enhanced Category 5 is recommended, although Cat 5 should work if perfectly installed
