SNMP & CMIP
SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol and is a TCP/IP standard. CMIP stands for Common Management Information Protocol.
SNMP and CMIP typically have 3 components:
- Agent: The agent is the client software part of the management tool. It collects information for use by the management system. The agent resides on each network device.
- Manager: The manager is a centralized software component that manages the network. The management software stores the information in a standardized database.
- Administration system: The administration system is the centralized management component that collects and analyzes the information from the managers. Most administration systems provide information, alerts, and automatic modifications. Often the administration system is coupled with the management application.
