10Base5
A third Ethernet specification, 10Base5, is a coaxial cable specification that indicates a 10 Mbps baseband transmission using a physical bus topology.
10Base5 networks allow segment runs of 500 meters.
The longer allowable segment length is due to less attenuation on the wire because of the wider cable diameter.
This specification is also known as Standard Ethernet, thick Ethernet, or thicknet, because of the type of cabling used.
The maximum number of hosts on a thicknet segment is 100 and the computers on each end must be terminated.
