Sessions

On the Internet, IP packets are associated in groups. Each group of packets has the same addressing information. A group of IP packets with the exact same addressing information is known as a session.

All packets in a given session contain the same 5 values for source IP address, destination IP address, source port number, destination port number and protocol number.

These 5 values are uniquely different for every session. This allows each session to be distinguished from all other sessions.
