ATM is capable of providing 622Mb/s bandwith. It supports the simultaneous transmission of voice, video and data. Minimal latency and delay accompany transmission of video signals. It also provides the backbone network to support LAN Emulation (LANE). This ability to emulate a LAN transmission environment is important as all ATM connections are point to point and emulating a LAN allows multipoint and broadcast transmissions to be sent to multiple nodes in the VLAN segment. |
