Slide 9. Benefits Of SVCs
The number of PVCs geometrically increase as the number of locations increase in a fully meshed environment. The number of PVCs required can be determined using the formula N*(N-1)/2. This means that a 10 location network needs 45 PVCs, 190 PVCs for 20 locations, 435 PVCs for 30 locations, and so on.
Using SVCs, permanent connections do not need to be maintained and managed. Adding a new location is much simpler because PVCs do not need to be defined to all the existing locations. Using SVCs, once the location has a port on the frame relay network and that locations address is entered in the networks routing table, that location can commence communication to any location to which it has access using SVCs.
