DEVELOPING SKILLS IN
COMPUTER NETWORKS
- To fully understand networking concepts,
students must have lots of experience with both hardware and software.
- The students first assignment involved
installing the hardware and software on two different computers
and connecting the computers to the campus peer-to-peer Windows
network.
- The students were also assigned a
series of three assignments on the three major network software
products, Windows NT, Novell and UNIX. In each assignment, the
students were given an account on the network along with a series
of questions that require the use of software tools typically
used by a network administrator.
- Although most of the students had
little or no experience with all three of the network operating
systems, with the proper guidance before and during the assignments,
the students not only learned a lot but received high marks.
