Introduction to the iPAQ Pocket PC and Windows CE

Get organized, get more done, and have more fun with the Pocket PC!

The Pocket PC is the most complete, useful Personal Data Assistant (PDA) available today. In fact, it is more than a PDA, it is actually a “Pocket PC”.

You can:

• Add hardware components such as a modem or extra memory to your Pocket PC.
• Connect to a network or the Internet to exchange e-mail and surf the Web.
• Record music, play games, read eBooks.
• Track appointments and tasks and maintain contacts, addresses, phone numbers, and other vital data with Microsoft® Pocket Outlook®.
• Take notes, use the calculator, and work with Microsoft Pocket Word documents and Microsoft Pocket Excel spreadsheets.
• Synchronize data with your desktop or laptop PC, and add, configure, and use a modem or wireless connection to send e-mail and surf the Web.

Project 1 – What are we doing?

This project is designed for you to gain experience in learning to use Windows CE on the iPAQ Pocket PC through the use of the Calendar.

Part 1: Setting up the calendar.

a) Press the leftmost button on the bottom of your iPAQ

b) Find the calendar for today.

a. At the bottom of the screen, you can select a day calendar, a weekly calendar, a monthly calendar, or a yearly calendar.

b. You can go the previous or next item in the calendar using the arrows at the top of the calendar screen.

c. Once you have located today, press New in the bottom left corner and enter the appropriate information for Subject (Windows CE workshop), Location (RHS), Starts (9:00 a.m.), Ends (10 a.m.).

d. Press the Notes tab and enter a description of what you are doing today.

c) Press OK when finished.

d) Show one of us when you are finished.

Project 2 – Getting to Know You

This project is designed for you to gain experience in learning to use Windows CE on the iPAQ Pocket PC through the use of the Contact List and Beaming.

Part 1: Setting up a contact (each student in your group must do the following).

a) Press New in the bottom left corner of your iPAQ

b) Select Contact

c) Either select Keyboard or Transcriber in the bottom right corner of the iPAQ.

d) Enter your Name, job title (student), and e-mail address in Contact.

e) Press OK when finished.

Part 2: Sending the contact information to each other

a) From the Start menu in the top left corner, select Contacts

b) Select one of the contacts by tapping on it and then hold stylus over contact.

c) Select Beam Contact.

d) Point your iPAQ at the person you are beaming to.

e) Repeat for everyone in class.
