INTRODUCTION
- Students at New Mexico Highlands
University respond better to technical courses that require a
large amount of hands-on experience. The course in Network Management
taught at Highlands is such a course.
- Although many of the students had
taken a course in Computer Networks, they still lacked an understanding
of many of the fundamental concepts.
- This required that the assignments
be of three types.
- Several of the assignments in the
class focused on specific computer networking skills. For a student
to understand network management, they must first understand computer
networks. That required assignments that involved both network
hardware and network software.
- The second type of assignment focused
on the design of computer networks. This required that the students
understand computer network concepts thoroughly.
- Computer networks and network management
are rapidly changing areas, probably more so than any other area
of computer science. The third type of assignment emphasized staying
current in the field.
