Configuring Router Identification
Most commands for configuring router identification must be typed in global configuration mode.
The default host name is simply router. To set the router’s name to router57, you would type hostname router57.
You can also configure a banner, which will give a message of the day to anyone that logs in to the router using the banner motd # command.
You can configure a description for each of the interfaces physically attached to your router by using the description command.
Any text typed after the word description will identify the interface.
