Normal Mode
The potential difference between the hot lead and neutral wires is called normal mode so normal mode problems involve these two wires.
Remember that normal mode involves the wires that are normally used to provide power.
The potential between the hot and neutral wires should be about 110 volts in US.
Voltage greater or lower than 10% of 110 represents a normal mode problem.
