Ethernet (802.3)
IEEE 802.3 defines Ethernet networking, which is the most common LAN architecture today.
Different types of Ethernet networks exist within the generic 802.3 specification. These specifications call for different transmission rates, cable types, and minimum and maximum cable lengths.
Ethernet uses the CSMA/CD network access method. As a matter of fact, the 802.3 standard is typically referred to as CSMA/CD.
CSMA/CD is a logical bus. The physical topology may be a star or a bus.
