Transmitting Packets to Remote Segments Continued
The router checks its routing tables against the destination IP address to locate the appropriate network interface through which to forward the packet.
Then, the router rebuilds the Network Interface information, including the correct MAC address for the destination host.
If the router cannot obtain an appropriate MAC to IP address mapping, the packet is forwarded to another router.
The router that receives the packet attempts to deliver the packet. If this is not successful, the router sends it on to another router.
