RARP
RARP is similar to ARP in that devices use it in the process of binding MAC to IP addresses.
RARP is used, however, primarily by diskless workstations, which have MAC addresses burned into their network cards, but no IP addresses.
Diskless workstations have no hard drives to hold IP configuration information. Therefore, they must obtain their IP configuration information each time they boot on the network.
A client’s IP configuration must be stored on an RARP server.
