Ping
Ping is one of the most frequently used troubleshooting tools.
Ping uses ICMP messages to verify connectivity at the Internetwork Layer of the TCP/IP model.
The statistics on the next slide indicate that four packets were sent and four replies were received. The speed of the replies was between zero and one millisecond. The response to the first packet was the slowest. The other three replies took less than 1 millisecond.
By default, the Microsoft version of the ping utility is set to send four ICMP messages to a host that is contacted with ping.
