Understanding the OSI Model
Communication and compatibility problems early on made communications between different systems impossible.
In 1984 the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) presented the OSI (Open System Interconnection) model.
This model is a 7-layer model that was based on existing protocols.
From the bottom up, the layers are: physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation, application.
