Interfaces
Routers are attached to LANs and WANs using configurable interfaces.
There are various interfaces that can be configured on a router.
A typical interface is Ethernet0 (aka e0), which is used to connect the router to an Ethernet LAN.
The router can have other types of interfaces, including:
- Token Ring
- Basic Rate Interface (BRI)
- Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)
- Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI)
- Channel Interface Protocol (CIP) for System Network Architecture (SNA)
- High Speed Serial Interface (HSSI)
