Frame Relay Continued
The following can be configured with frame relay:
- Access rate - speed of line, 64 and 128 kbps (ISDN) and 1.544 mbps (T1)
- Committed information rate - max average transfer rate
- Committed burst size - max amount of data that provider agrees to
- Excess burst size - amount of excess traffic the network will attempt to transfer during a set time
- Data link connection identifier - "dell-see", configured on the router to identify which path leads to a specific network layer address
- Local management interface - signaling mechanism
- Discard eligible - frames that can be discarded
Frame relay switches attempt to control congestion using FECN and BECN. FECN notifies the router that congestion has occurred. BECN notifies transmitting router of the congestion.
