WAN Data Link Protocols

• There are several types of data link protocols to be used with the previously mentioned WAN connections.

• The data link protocols for WANs define how networks will carry the data frames on a WAN link.

• There are 3 categories of WAN data link protocols:

  • SDLC
  • Peer Device Protocols - HDLC/PPP
  • Switched Protocols
