SNMP
Most TCP/IP protocol suites include SNMP making it the most popular network management software.
Devices use SNMP agents to provide information to SNMP management software.
The client running the agent software traps network information and statistics. The device running the SNMP management software then queries devices running the SNMP agent to get the information.
SNMP uses a management information base (MIB) that maintains the statistics such as disk space, packets transmitted/received, errors, and system utilization statistics. The MIB can be edited.
