SNMP

• Most TCP/IP protocol suites include SNMP making it the most popular network management software.

• Devices use SNMP agents to provide information to SNMP management software.

• The client running the agent software traps network information and statistics. The device running the SNMP management software then queries devices running the SNMP agent to get the information.

• SNMP uses a management information base (MIB) that maintains the statistics such as disk space, packets transmitted/received, errors, and system utilization statistics. The MIB can be edited.
