Hot vs. Neutral
The hot lead wire (aka hot wire) is a conductor that is ungrounded and connects the transformer and electrical devices.
The neutral wire completes the circuit with the hot wire.
When you flip a switch or turn on an appliance, you connect the hot and neutral wires and electricity flows between them.
The neutral wire is grounded at the transformer.
The neutral wire is not the safety ground wire (aka ground wire).
