Testing Cable
Once cabling is installed, you should be sure to test it. Often you will need to test the cable because you suspect a problem. In this case, use the troubleshooting model outlined below:
- Divide the network into its logical functional elements.
- Note any symptoms.
- Based on the observed symptoms, locate the most probable dysfunctional element.
- Use additional testing and/or substitution to locate the dysfunctional component.
- Proceed to the next most likely component, if the first one does not prove to be dysfunctional.
- Repair the problem once it is located.
- If the problem cannot be repaired, replace the problem component.
