Drywall, Plaster, or Wood
Drywall:
- Drywall is the easiest type of wall to cut into.
- Flush mounting is almost always used when the internal walls are made of drywall because drywall crumbles when drilled.
Plaster:
- If you have a plaster wall, you may need a hammer and chisel to get the cuts started.
- Make holes at the top, bottom, and middle of your outline with the hammer and chisel before cutting.
Wood:
- Ensure that you are at least two inches above the baseboard and drill holes at each of the corners of the connector outline. Then, use a jigsaw or keyhole saw to cut the rest of the outline.
- If you are not at least two inches above the baseboard, the bottom plate may prevent you from pushing the box completely into the wall.
