Surface Mounting Continued
The other situations where surface mounting is used include:
- A wall that cannot be cut.
- An obstruction exists in the wall between the wiring closet and proposed outlet.
- An EMI/RFI source can be avoided by using a surface route.
The disadvantages of using surface mounting include:
- connectors and cable in surface mounting are not as protected as flush mounting
- surface mounting is not as aesthetically pleasing as flush mounting
The two different styles of surface mounted telecommunications connectors include a standard surface mount conduit called a raceway and the second more aesthetically pleasing mounting called a decorative raceway.
