100BaseT
A fourth specification, 100BaseT, is also known as Fast Ethernet because it provides 100 Mbps baseband transfer rate over twisted-pair wire.
Fast Ethernet uses the same network access method (CSMA/CD) and the same topology as 10BaseT, which is star-bus, but provides ten times the data transmission rate.
Different NICs and network devices are required to obtain the higher data transmission rate.
When converting to 100Base T, existing 10BaseT network wiring can often be used.
Newer NICs support both 10 and 100 Mbps transmission rates.
