IEEE

• The IEEE is a large technical professional society that fosters the development of national and international standards.

• One of the most significant IEEE contributions to standardizing networks is the IEEE 802 specification.

• The IEEE 802 standard originated in February of 1980. This standard is discussed in more detail later in this chapter.
