• Media selection is probably the most important consideration in LAN design.

• You must consider several factors when determining what type of cable to use in a network installation. These factors include:

  • cost limitations
  • the distance the signal must travel
  • speed considerations
  • the need for security
  • the person who will do the installation
  • potential interference problems
