Learning the Routes
Routers learn the routes either by static configuration and/or by dynamic configuration.
Static configuration is a manual process in which a network administrator must type in the paths from one network segment to the other.
On large internetworks, static configuration could become quite time consuming and error-prone.
In dynamic routing, routers learn about paths to other networks through communications with one another and create and maintain routing tables automatically.
