ARP Continued
The source computer checks its ARP cache for an IP to MAC address mapping when it wants to send a message.
If the computer finds an IP to MAC address mapping, the source computer uses that information to encapsulate the data that it is ready to transmit.
The source computer then sends the packet directly to the destination computer.
The next slide illustrates the ARP cache of a Windows 98 TCP/IP host attached to the Internet.
Notice that the Internet address (IP address) is listed first, the MAC address next, and then information about whether the entry is static or dynamic.
