Hands-on Lab 3 - AntiVirus Policy
Hands-on Activity
(DUE February 14, 2006 before midnight (11:59 p.m. EST) One of the biggest problems in network security today is that of malware, in particular virii and worms. This assignment is designed to give you some experience in combatting these.
Pre-assignment:
- Make sure that you have a current version of an antivirus software.
- Answer the following questions:
- Which antivirus software do you have installed?
- Why did you select this version?
- What types of malware does it protect against?
- How many virii does it protect against?
Assignment - Install another antivirus software on a computer (be sure to backup your important data before doing this):
- You can find several free antivirus software products at http://csc.ColumbusState.edu/summers/virus.htm
- Describe the procedures for installing the anti-virus program onto your
machine. It must contain at least information on:
- where to get the program,
- how to start the installation,
- what answers you must give to installation questions,
- how to initiate anti-virus security checks.
Post-assignment: Answer the following questions -
- Compare and contrast the two antivirus programs.
- Where should antivirus software be installed in a coporate environment?
- Compare malware protection policy and procedures for i) home, ii) universities, iii) small business, iv) large company.
