The purpose of the "History of Computing" program (in London) is to provide University System of Georgia students the opportunity to experience first-hand the history of computing by active immersion in the culture and society at England. Many of the early developments of computing devices occurred in London, Manchester, and Bletchley Park. During this experience, students will visit various sites to observe how early computing devices were developed and evolved into the computers of today. For instance, a visit to Bletchley Park will provide insights into how early computing devices were used to crack the encryption codes during World War II. A visit to the Museum of Science in London will provide an opportunity to see a replica of the first computer.
This experience will be conducted in London, England as part of the European Council London Summer Program and surrounding sites over five weeks (June 18-July 24, 2009).
