Video Graded Assignment

Instructions: This video assignment will be done with an animation / movie / story producing program; (i.e. Windows Movie Maker (PC)/iMovie (Mac), PhotoStory, Camtasia, GarageBand, ...) The assignment is due Wednesday October 15, 2008 before 3 p.m.

You are to create a multimedia story using your own content. You may use any program to create your video. Your video must be in a standard format that I can view (WMV, Quicktime, AVI, MPEG). It must also be less than 4 MB in order to upload in the DropBox. Contact me if you have questions.

If you are using iMovie, there are a number of good websites that explain how to save the file in one of the above formats (http://sitemaker.umich.edu/slonn/files/imovieqt.html)

  1. STEP 0: Create a free account at Screencast.com (http://www.screencast.com)or use your gmail account to set up your Youtube account ( http://www.youtube.com/).
  2. STEP 1: Prepare your content (images, sound/music); store on your H: drive or a flashdrive
  3. STEP 2: Using Windows Movie Maker (PC)/iMovie (Mac), create a movie that contains all of the following:
    1. audio
    2. video or pictures
    3. one or more transitions
    4. a beginning title
    5. ending credits
    The following are the details for using Microsoft's FREE PhotoStory 3 (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/PhotoStory/default.mspx)

    [ALTERNATIVE STEP 2: Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/PhotoStory/default.mspx to download PhotoStory 3 (or something comparable)

    1. Validation is required by Microsoft as part of the Windows Genuine Advantage - Download the WGAPluginInstall
    2. Install the WGAPluginInstall (in lab it downloads to MyDocuments)
    3. Download the PhotoStory 3 software to the desktop or MyDocuments
    4. Install the software
    5. Run the software
      1. Import pictures/images from your disk
      2. Add the effects and titles to the pictures
      3. Record your discussion of the pictures (OPTIONAL)
      4. Select or Create music for the show
  4. STEP 3: Once you are done creating the movie, if you use Windows Movie Maker with Windows Vista, be sure to select "This computer" under the "Publish to" section to save the movie in a video format compatible with Screencast.com. If you use Windows Movie Maker with Windows XP, be sure to select "Save to my computer" under the "Finish Movie" section to save the movie in a video format compatible with Screencast.com.
  5. STEP 4: Upload your movie to your Screencast.com or youtube.com site.
    [Note: if you upload the movie and you receive the message that the file cannot be embedded, this typically means the file you uploaded is not in the correct video format. Screencast.com supports only MP4, SWF, FLV, WMV, or MOV (http://www.screencast.com/help/tutorial.aspx?id=393&). Follow the instructions above to save the file as a .wmv file format if you are using Windows or the .mov file format if you are using a Macintoch computer.]
Rubric Scoring (50 pts): For the Week 11 discussion question, post a message that includes the following:
The "Share URL" of your Screencast.com/youtube.com video (click the "Share" icon to the left of the movie to access the URL) (rather than type the URL in, open the Share URL in a browser, then copy and paste the URL from the browser address window).
