LAB ASSIGNMENT 5 – Creating and Viewing Logs

 

Materials Needed:

Step 1: Setting Security Logs

 

Select Administrative tools in Control Panel; then choose Local Security Policy. Expand the Local Policies and click Audit Policy.

 

 

Select those items to be audited by double-clicking and checking the appropriate boxes. Minimally the logon events (success and failure) should be audited.

Step 2: Viewing Logs

 

Select Administrative tools in Control Panel; then choose Event Viewer.

 

 

  • You can view each of the three logs (Application Log, Security Log, and System Log) by selecting the log on the right.
  • You can view the details of each entry in the log by double-clicking on the entry.
