Technical Papers Assignment

In addition to the textbook, we will be using technical papers in this course. For each assigned technical paper, you get to submit a summary and participation in a discussion thread.

Summary

For the summary, submit a typed, half-page summary to the appropriate Assignment tab/folder in CougarVIEW. Summaries are due on the day indicated on the calendar. The audience for the summary is a bright computer science graduate student that has not read the article. Additionally, each summary should contain the following:
  1. An introductory sentence that indicates the article's title and author
  2. A brief summary of the main idea and the author's supporting arguments
  3. As appropriate, identify the connection with the other material covered in class
  4. Your opinion about the paper (with supporting evidence)
The summary portion is worth up to 40 points.
An example summary from another class for a similar assignment is available for review.

Discussion

Additionally, for each assigned paper, you get to participate in a discussion thread. You need to post two of the three topics in each thread: The discussion portion is worth up to 10 points.
