CPSC 3165                                                                                     Fall 2007

Resume & Cover Letter                                   Due Tuesday, September 11

Short Description:
Assume that you have just graduated college with the degree that you are now seeking.  Write a resume
(one or two pages) and a cover letter to apply for an imaginary job.

In the resume you may imagine that you have graduated CSU with the major and GPA that you would like
to have, with the experience you might have, and at the date you would like.

If you have any actual experience, you should include it in this resume.

When you actually graduate, this resume will require editing to reflect reality.

Details of the Imaginary Job Openings
Acme Anvil Company, exclusive purveyor to Wile E. Coyote of falling anvils and exploding objects, has
announced a number of entry level openings in the following departments.

New Software Development                 Product Testing and Quality Control

            Anvil Manufacture                                Advertising
            Public Relations                                    Technical Writing

Details of the Assignment
You are to write a cover letter that specifically addresses the company and job position for which you are
applying.  This should be a one–page letter.  It will be addressed to:
            Mr. Yosemite Sam
            Acme Anvil, Inc.
            222 Drop It Lane

You are to go to the CSU Career Center (Davidson 147, Open M – F at 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and use their
ResumeMaker software to create the resume.  It may be either functional or chronological, as you think best.
Any of the standard ResumeMaker formats is acceptable; pick a format that “tells your story” in the best light.

After creating the resume and cover letter, you are to collaborate with your tutor in the Writing Lab
(Woodhall 116) to review grammatical and style issues.
