CS235 - Advanced Internet - Summer 1998

Week 1 - Introduction; Search Engines; HTML and homepage development; Advanced HTML and homepage development; Cascading Style Sheets

Project - due July 30, 1998 (30 pts) - must include advanced HTML tags (fonts, tables, forms, frames(?), JavaScript, image maps) and significant content suitable for publication

Possible Topics: San Miguel County, Ft. Union, other local agencies, Mora County, NMHU Departments or offices or clubs, ???

Assignment 1 (due 8 a.m. July 21, 1998) - Send an e-mail journal to me discussing yourself, your background with the Internet; include a preliminary discussion of your project

Assignment 2 (due 8 a.m. July 22, 1998)

  1. - explore Wayne's World - jaring.nmhu.edu, Highlands pages - www.nmhu.edu & Kevin Hatch's pages - cs.nmhu.edu/personal/kevin/www
  2. further explore the web and begin preliminary outline of project
  3. Send an e-mail journal discussing the sites you have explored, progress on project c) List URLs of sites which are good and those which are bad d) List URLs of sites which use i) forms, ii) tables iii) font tags, and iv) frames

Assignment 3 (due 8 a.m. July 23, 1998) -

  1. further explore the web and install preliminary outline of project on Zuse in LH2
  2. Send an e-mail journal discussing the sites you have explored, progress on project c) List URLs of sites which use i) forms, ii) tables iii) font tags, iv) frames, v) marquees, and vi) JavaScript

Assignment 4(due 8 a.m. July 27, 1998) -

  1. further explore the web and reinstall project on Zuse in LH2
  2. Briefly describe what you have learned about Cascading Style Sheets
  3. Send an e-mail journal discussing the sites you have explored, progress on project.

Week 2- JavaScript; Microsoft Front Page; LView Pro & Paint Shop Pro; other programming tools; SGML, VRML, Internet Servers

Assignment 5 (due 8 a.m. July 28, 1998) -

  1. further explore the web looking for information on Cascading Style Sheets and upgrade your project on Zuse in LH2
  2. Send an e-mail journal discussing the sites you have explored, progress on project
  3. discuss the sites you have explored, progress on project List URLs of sites which use i) JavaScript
  4. Briefly describe what you have learned about Cascading Style Sheets and DHTML

Assignment 6 (due 8 a.m. July 29, 1998) -

  1. further explore the web looking for information on SGML and VRML and upgrade your project on Zuse in LH2
  2. Send an e-mail journal discussing the sites you have explored, progress on project
  3. Briefly describe what you have learned about SGML and VRML

Assignment 7 (due 8 a.m. July 30, 1998) -

  1. further explore the web looking for information on the Intranet and Internet Security
  2. Finish your project on Zuse in LH2
  3. Send an e-mail journal discussing the sites you have explored, progress on project
  4. Briefly describe what you have learned about intranets and XML
